Our Story
Hand-poured candles and a few treasures, from a little studio in Felton.
Hilde
Hilde Hauc Candles is named for my great-grandmother. She was widowed in the 1920s and raised her children through the Great Depression, and somehow she still found ways to make life beautiful. She taught me that what we make with care and intention lasts.
I think about her every time I pour.
The candles
I've poured every Hilde Hauc candle by hand since 2012, the slow way: soy wax, a cotton wick tested for its jar, and two weeks of patience to cure before a single candle leaves the shelf. The fragrance is phthalate-free and made without anything on California's Prop 65 list.
I pour in small batches, so when a scent sells out, it's a short wait while the next ones cure. If you can't decide, write to me. I'll send samples until we find the one.
Ethel & Sabel
Ethel & Sabel is where the candles live, alongside the things I can't resist: old treasures with good bones, pretty notions for the sewing basket, and boxes of matches far too charming for a kitchen drawer.
I've always been an old soul. I believe in a well-set table, a good song in the background, and a room that smells like someone cares. I hope something here finds its way into your home.
